Bike Shaker

Brief History
2017 Calendar

Bike Shaker was the brain child of Ann Cicarella who recruited Rick Smith and other Trustees of the Shaker Historical Society to produce bike tours of Shaker Heights. Advocacy and education also became part of the group's remit in order to encourage safer cycling in Shaker Heights and to offer a healthy way of learning history. It is a free and open public group that communicates through Shaker Historical Society membership publications and on a public Facebook page. The Shaker Historical Society presents bike tours guided by RDL architect, Greydon Petznick, which are fee-based and require reservations.

Classes have been offered in bike safety at Thornton Park and other advocacy efforts by Bike Shaker leaders, Rick Smith and Austin McGuan, have contributed to the design of the Lake to Lakes Trail, sharrows being painted on City streets and the LAB's Bicycle Friendly City BRONZE designation first earned by the City of Shaker Heights in 2016.

In 2015 and 2016, Bike Shaker rode in VeloSano, and we believe that we were the only museum or non-profit outside of the Cleveland Clinic to participate. VeloSano was founded by our 2015 Movers and Shakers honorees and neighbors Donna and Stewart Kohl. It has raised over $3M for cancer research at the clinic.

If you are interested in riding in VeloSano with our Bike Shaker team, please contact Ware at 216.921.1201.
