Caring for Your Collections Furniture Workshop/Lunch and Learn

Join Dr Ware Petznick for 3 different beneficial workshops on caring for your precious items. Bring a packed lunch and join her to learn important tools and techniques to restore or preserve your favorite collections. Each day will focus on a different preservation technique. Basic cleaning guidelines and a demonstration will be part of the workshop.

 

Wednesday - Caring for your Furniture

Learn how to care for furniture or woodwork whether it be a family heirloom or your finest woodwork today. Basic cleaning guidelines and a demonstration will be part of the workshop. Guests are welcome to bring a SINGLE wooden item to discuss its care and preservation.

$10 SHS Members, $20 General Admission

 

Thursday - Caring for your Silver Metalwork

Learn how to care for silver, brass, pewter or any metal work whether they be family heirlooms or your finest cutlery today. Basic cleaning guidelines and a demonstration will be part of the workshop. Guests are welcome to bring a SINGLE metal item to discuss its care and preservation.

Learn how to care for fabrics whether they be family heirlooms or your finest linens today. Basic cleaning guidelines and a demonstration will be part of the workshop. Guests are welcome to bring a SINGLE textile item to discuss its care and preservation.

Tudor City Gallery Talk

Join Tudor City Exhibit curator Dr. Ware Petznick for a in depth walk through of the Tudor Architecture in our wonderful community. Dr. Petznick will walk you through the details of our current exhibit "Tudor City" and highlight the history of the Tudors and how their architecture was interpreted in Shaker Heights.

Mother-Daughter Mad Hatter Tea Party

Join us for a spot of tea and dainty nibbles and wear your favorite hat! The wearer of everyone's favorite headpiece will win a Spirit Tree baseball cap! Does your hat need sprucing up? Join us in some crafting to decorate your hat in the spirit of Jane Austen and those ribbons! Supplies provided. Reservations required.

15th Annual Gracious Gardens of Shaker Heights Garden Tour

Always held on Fathers Day, the Gracious Gardens of Shaker Heights tour is a major event that supports the Shaker Historical Society’s commitment to historic preservation, education, and community engagement. This event is also produced in partnership with Cuyahoga Arts & Culture and the Ohio History Connection.

This annual event features some of the most beautiful gardens of Shaker Heights to inspire you to create your own outdoor oasis.

Also on Sunday 12-5 the Museum hosts a free open house. Enjoy the garden tour and add the Shaker Historical Society's museum to your day!

Shaker Dig Camp 5

This camp is a great experience for kids aged 5-9th grade. Campers will work side by side with an archaeologist on the Shaker Dig! Join

Archaeologist Beth Hoag of Cuyahoga Community College, Master teacher Rosemary Nemeth and museum director Dr Ware Petznick to learn about the wonders of digging into the past. Students will be immersed in the history of the Shakers in this amazing week!  We also extend our gratitude to the cooperation of the City of Shaker Heights and the Historic Landmark Commission for permission to dig on the site.
